Amalgamated Lifts completes major lift refurbishment at Riverside House West ahead of time

14 September 2009 – Orpington UK – Amalgamated Lifts, leading providers of lift installation, modernisation and maintenance services throughout the South-East of England has recently completed the refurbishment of three high-speed lifts in the high-rise Riverside House West offices as part of a refurbishment programme being undertaken by main contractor Lakehouse.

The project presented a number of challenges; the three lifts span 14 floors and since the building was to remain occupied throughout it was vital that as many lifts as possible remained operational for the 850 employees working there. The building is occupied by Greenwich Council, Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs and the Probation Service. Restricted access to the motor room complicated the project further and this meant that the lifts had to be craned in via the top of the building. In spite of these difficulties the project was completed one month ahead of schedule.

Simon Smith, director of Amalgamated Lifts commenting on the project said, “We were mindful that minimum inconvenience to employees was paramount. Through skilful project management we were able to schedule lift down-time so that employees were able to retain fast and easy access throughout the building with as little disruption as possible.”

Riverside House West is a distinctive blue and grey tower situated near to the Woolwich riverfront. The major refurbishment undertaken by Lakehouse included refitting five floors of offices and the provision of a new public service reception area.
