News Item Amalgamated Lifts Goes Green as it Transitions to Hybrid Vehicles. Amalgamated Lifts - 8 April 2010 - Orpington UK, Amalgamated Lifts leading providers of lift installation, modernisation and maintenance services throughout London and the South-East of England, having piloted its first hybrid car is transitioning its field services team to more efficient and environmentally friendly transportation. With a fleet of over 30 vehicles and where a high mileage engineer can travel up to 35,000 miles per year, the benefits of changing to hybrid vehicles are significant. From a company perspective, the switch is expected to yield savings in fuel and reduce costs associated with congestion charging in London; from an environmental perspective is much cleaner, cutting down on emissions and greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide by between 25 and 35%. Simon Smith, Director of Amalgamated Lifts commenting on the decision said, "The benefits to the environment and cutting costs are compelling reasons for us to change to hybrid cars. Our pilot scheme with the Honda Insight went extremely well. Our business covers London and the South-East; with all its inherent problems of congestion and slow moving traffic this makes hybrid cars a particularly attractive option. Using the battery powered engine in these conditions (often when needless amounts of petrol is burned), means little or no fuel is used. We have been more than pleased with the results so far."   Photo: Simon Smith (centre) director of Amalgamated Lifts in Orpington with two of his engineering services team, Dave Huxley (left) and Martin Teigen (right) with their new hybrid cars Notes to Editors About Amalgamated Lifts Amalgamated Lifts maintains, modernises and installs lift systems across London and throughout the South East.
