Case Study: 101 St Martin's LaneCase Studies |
101 St Martin's Lane, London, WC2 is a completely rennovated building with an orignal Edwardian façade, retained for its architectural, historical and cultural significance. Amalgamated Lifts was appointed by the main contractor, Durkan Pudelek, to carry out the refurbishment and modernisation of three Otis passenger lifts, while Mellersh and Harding acted as Building Consultants on behalf of the client - an Investment and Fund Management company. Our original discussions with the Building Consultants focused on modernising the aesthetics, together with improving the performance and ride quality, of the lift installations. We also retained and overhauled as much as possible of the original equipment to reduce costs and to fit with the overall programme for the building's development. We also had to offer a 20-year comprehensive maintenance contract on all the equipment after the modernisation was completed, which required special consideration during our initial survey and scope-of-works. This was achieved by retaining the original guides, basic lift car structure, gear units, door gears and the majority of the mechanical components but installing new, state-of-the-art, controls and associated equipment tailored to work with the existing equipment, which was thoroughly overhauled and reconditioned where appropriate. The interior of the lift car was refurbished to achieve a modern and stylish appearance. All works associated with compliance with the DDA were carried out to ensure that the newly modernised building met all current legislation and standards.
