As part of the QESH Sub committee meetings, your field representatives discussed the importance of lone working and have since gone on to test the SOS safety feature available on your PDA’s.This Safety feature enables SOS texts to be sent to a maximum of 3 emergency contacts, should you find yourself in a difficult scenario. We suggest your emergency contacts to be your line manager and next of kin. With regards to night call, your line manager may change and should be considered.Once you have set this feature up, and click the power button 3 times, your emergency contact will receive an SOS text with your current location. Your emergency contact can then make the necessary arrangements. We must stress that this button is only to be used during emergencies, as your emergency contact will phone for the authorities and send them to your location.
Here is how to set up the emergency SOS feature on a Samsung smartphone (some steps may differ depending on Android OS version):
1. Pull down your notification bar and open Settings.
2. Scroll down and select “Advanced features.”
3. At the bottom of the menu, find “Send SOS messages.”
4. Toggle it on and choose your emergency contacts (who will receive the message).
5. Now toggle the indicators next to “Attach pictures” and “Attach audio recording.”
Now the SOS emergency contact feature is all set up. When the user clicks the power button three times, their emergency contacts receive an SOS message, links to a map and the audio clip, as well as front and rear photos so you can instantly take action to get them the help they need. If you require assistance in setting this feature up, then please contact your field representatives who can assist you.
