The Vick Switch – Innovation Award 2019
In November, it was humbling for Amalgamated Lifts to collect a posthumous award for Gary Vick’s, Innovation to Safety, with his creative design on the ‘fail-safe stop switch’. Gary designed the new stop switch following faulty switches being identified. Within the week prior to Gary’s untimely death he commented, “if this stop switch saves just one life then, that is my legacy”. The award was from H&K Safety Services. HSE recognised, H&K have an annual awards ceremony and delivered this deserved recognition for Gary’s design. This innovative idea was congratulated wholeheartedly.
The award has a globe on the centre, demonstrating the impact that this design could potentially have around the world. LEIA have embraced the invention too and are looking to push this through British Standards.
We will certainly be raising a glass this Christmas to Gary, our colleague, friend and one of a kind. We miss you xXx
